Booksellers have chosen "Sinterklaas" by Charlotte Dematons as "The Most Beautiful Book Cover 2007". It is the first time a children's book cover has won the award.

The Most Beautiful Book Cover is organised by the trade magazine Boekblad and the Best Designed Books Foundation. Seven booksellers chose 12 covers, and from 20 December 2007 to 14 January 2008 all booksellers working in Dutch bookshops were able to vote for his or her favourite.

The top 5 favourite book covers were:

1 Charlotte Dematons – Sinterklaas, publisher Lemniscaat (design: Charlotte Dematons)
2 Paul Scheffer – Het land van aankomst, publisher De Bezige Bij (design: Erik Kessels)
3 Haruki Murakami – Norwegian Wood, publisher Atlas (design: Zeno)
4 Roland van der Vorst – Nieuwsgierigheid, Nieuw Amsterdam (design: THEY)
5 Tiendelige jubileumreeks, publisher Podium (design: Will Webb Design)

Charlotte Dematons (French father, Dutch mother) grew up in France and studied at the Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. She has illustrated many books, including a new edition of Grimm's Tales in 2005. She also designs her own picture books.

The prize is awarded annually; the winning designer/illustrator wins a trophy and the winning publisher gets to keep a trophy for the year.
