At its first lustrum design fair Meesterlijk has upped the ante to become a more dynamic and international programme attracting some top names.

By Editor / 19-09-2013

Meesterlijk started as a small sideshow held during Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven, but now it is an independent design fair held in Amsterdam dedicated to craftsmanship.  In Dutch "Meesterlijk" means masterly.

For the fifth edition running from Nov 29 to Dec 1, international fashion icons Iris Apfel and Diane Pernet have joined the Committee of Approval, which already lists Dutch celebrities Lidewij Edelkoort, Richard Hutten and Jan Taminiau.

Among the highlights of this year’s fair are Hester van Eeghen producing leather bags on the spot, and objects by master glass blower Bernard Heesen. Professional bread baker Piet Hekker, food designer Marije Vogelzang and sculptor Karel Goudsblom will show the artisan preparation of food in a conceptual installation.

At Meesterlijk all different disciplines of design join hands, including food with a Special Edition of the NeighbourFood Market regularly held at the same spot – the Westergasfabriek, formerly a gas factory, and now one of the thriving cultural hotspots of the city of Amsterdam.

On the first day of the fair, its driving force - design curator Nicole Uniquole - will present a new book on current and historic craftsmanship published in collaboration with the Dutch Cultural Participation Fund.
