With only a few weeks left to get course applications in, reviewed Frame’s guide to the world’s best Master design courses.

By Cassandra Pizzey / 10-01-2013

Still haven’t made up your mind about which school to apply to next year? Then Masterclass could offer a helping hand.

Featuring handy statistics sketching expected course fees, cost of living and how to get around, this latest publication by Frame Publishers proves to be a great guide for budding Master students. Whether it’s the lowest tuition fees (Scandinavia) or the longest course (Pratt Institute), Masterclass has researched all you need to know and presents the facts in an attractive 311-page paperback.

Featuring 30 of the world’s leading graduate design schools, each one is given a clearly structured chapter in the book including an interview with the dean, course content, an overview of student work with full-colour images, interviews with alumni and inspirational quotes from current students, not to mention facts about the school and city. The guide even offers an overview of each school’s application procedure and deadlines.

Naturally two Dutch schools are featured in Masterclass, the Design Academy Eindhoven and Sanberg Instituut. More Dutch names pop-up throughout the book such as an interview with Italo-Dutch design duo Formafantasma, Imme van der Haak, Tord Boontje and Kees Klaassen, among others.

Of course not all design schools offering a master’s degree can be included in one book but featured schools were selected based on a list of criteria and success of former students, lecturers, and their reputation in the design industry.

Bachelor degree students, recent graduates and professionals needing a final push in the right direction would do well to read through this book, but for those interested in design and design schools Masterclass provides a great read too!
