The nominees of the second inaugural Brit Insurance Design Awards have been recently announced, with a host of Dutch designers shortlisted.

Spanning seven categories - Architecture, Fashion, Furniture, Graphics, Interactive, Product and Transport - the Brit Insurance Design Awards recognise the important achievements in international design over the past 12 months as well as bringing lesser known design triumphs to the fore.

The shortlist will be exhibited at the Brit Insurance Designs of the Year Exhibition from 12 February 2009 until 14 June at the Design Museum in London. From this comprehensive list, a panel of judges will decide the category winners in each of the seven disciplines to be announced at the end of February. These finalists will go forward to vie for the 2009 Brit Insurance Design of the Year, to be revealed at the Awards Dinner on 18 March 2009.

The Dutch nominees include:

Architecture: West 8 + DTAH, Spadina Wave Deck for Waterfront Toronto
Fashion: The House of Viktor & Rolf retrospective (Barbican Centre and Siebe Tettero)
Furniture: Tord Boontje (Fig Leaves for Meta), Wieki Somers (Cloakroom Museum Boijmans), Jurgen Bey (Witness Flat series for La Galerie de Pierre Bergé et Associés)
