Alongside the exclusive regular fashion show programme held at the Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam, Mercedes-Benz FashionWeek also offers a varied and exciting public programme. Here are our top ten picks of 10 Days Downtown.

Day 1 Fong Leng – Fashion & Art

Fashion designer and artist Fong Leng is "la grande dame" in the fashion circuit of the 70s and 80s of the twentieth century. With her quirky creations and swirling fashion shows it acquired fame in the Netherlands. On Saturday, January 18th, the Downtown program will kick off with this impressive exhibition and opening in the Amsterdam Museum. There are some of her best designs displayed from the collection of the museum, together with recently - and not previously shown - work in the exhibition. To this day on, she knows how to inspire the new generations, these different groups will be brought together on this inspring day.
Also, Bas Kosters will host a special performance, including models with masks!

Day 2 Rooms dressed like models
On Sunday, January 19th 2014 Hotel The Exchange will open their rooms to the public. These unique rooms are dressed ‘like models on the catwalk’ by fashion designers of the Amsterdam Fashion Institute. They are inspired by various fashion icons, eras, accessories and favorite garments. Hotel The Exchange is a hotel with a special love for fashion in the heart of Amsterdam with a playful take on in design and architecture.

Day 3 Bloggerscafe by Fashionchick
A public meeting place for bloggers on Monday evening January 20th 2014 created in collaboration with the NRC Café and Fashionchick. An event where bloggers and fans of blogging will meet. Several lectures will be given on blogging with fashion journalism as a central theme. Bloggers present: Yvonne (Yvestown), Anouk (Anouk Eve) and Monique (Culy).

Day 4 AMFI Fashion Film
The Ketelhuis at the Westergasterrein is where fashion lovers can watch six short fashion films made by students of the Amsterdam Fashion Institute (AMFI). The films are inspired by the collections of six young fashion designers: Dewi Bekker, Martijn van Strien, Katrien Baaij, Esther Boukje Kruyer, Anne van den Boogaard and Anneleen Bertels. The collections led the students to create meaningful, new film concepts.

Time&Date: The films première on 21 January at 21:30 and will show daily from 22-24 January at 22:00.

Day 5 Fashion Theatre
On Wednesday, January 22th 2014 a tableau vivant around a collection of a fashion designer will take place in The Stadsschouwburg in collaboration with SSBA Salon. MaryMe-JimmyPaul, a fashion designer duo with an affinity for the theater, present a selection of their pieces together with a young theater collective. Theatre lovers and fashion lovers meet and get acquainted with the various disciplines. The performance will take part in an unconventional place in the Stadsschouwburg where  guests receive a special look into fashion in this beautiful monument.

Day 6 Late Night Café
Fashion and music are inseparable. This commitment is visible on Thursday, January 23th 2014 during an afterparty of the AAA-Festival at The Concertgebouw. After the evening concert the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the central hall fills with audience, fashion by Esther Dorhout Mees, music, dance, performances and exhibition with the central theme 'Human Body'. The fashion character is clearly visible with different fashion elements and partnerships with the interaction of talented designers and musicians.

Day 7 Friday night: Fashion & Van Gogh
On Friday, January 24th, 2014, Mercdes-Benz FashionWeek Amsterdam in collaboration with the Van Gogh Museum Friday evening where a Vincent van Gogh as inspiration for fashion designers is central. The kick-off will be a presentation followed by a workshop with Mattijs van Bergen and Borre Akkersdijk in their workroom. Of course, the fixed parts of the Friday night at the museum site, such as a DJ, VJ and bar are presented so you can dance and the evening will be complete.

Day 8 Next by Modefabriek
A presentation and exhibition of the eight most talented emerging and (inter) national designers of the moment, managed by Modefabriek, will take place on Saturday, January 25 2014. Since 2005 the platform Next, an initiative of Modefabriek, has become the breeding ground where not only emerging but also internationally renowned designers show themselves to Dutch fashion press, stylists and buyers. The link to innovation, fashion and talent is key. Within the framework of cooperation between Modefabriek and Mercedes-Benz FashionWeek Amsterdam we want to show Next to the public in a high-profile yet to be determined location in Amsterdam.

Day 9 God created Fashion
This Sunday JUTKA & RISKA, Hutspot Amsterdam and Mercedes-Benz FashionWeek Amsterdam offer a special stage to today’s number 1 young designers and cool brands. Experience their collections on the runway and buy their treasures at the indoor market. An all day dazzling celebration of overall creativity.

Day 10 Fashion Talks
"Fashion Talks" is a substantive event with a fashion designer, Winde Rienstra, talking about 'art and fashion. The evening will begin with the story behind the design through a presentation of Winde Rienstra and will end with a surprising fashion presentation in the form of a tableau vivant and a drinks in Restaurant Stedelijk. Fashion Talks takes place on Monday, January 27, 2014 in the auditorium of the Stedelijk Museum and Stedelijk Restaurant to end the Special anniversary edition festively by Winde Rienstra in theme of design and innovation.
