Tuttobene takes on New York
After the now established stand in Milan during the Salone and new success during the London Design Festival this year, Tuttobene has crossed the Atlantic to participate in the New York International Gift Fair.
Taking along names such as Frederik Roijé, Reineke Otten and Tweelink to represent the Netherlands at the New York International Gift Fair (NYIGF), Tuttobene’s latest venture into the US market was one big adventure.
The participation of Tuttobene at the NYIGF is the US debut for both Tuttobene and the design studios. Never before such a large group of Dutch designers gathered in the US in a group presentation.
Together they presented a wide range of products varying from the Metrobowl by Frederik Roijé to Chinese ceramics by Carola Zee, the glass vases by Carina Riezebos, and silk scarves by Reineke Otten – designs which are extremely appealing to the U.S. market.
Featured works have a distinct character, are original and provide smart solutions, a characteristic of Dutch design. Take, for instance the Dutch Design Chair which serves both as a chair, a table and a stool. The innovative cardboard construction is used as base material, which offers several advantages with respect to the sustainable production and the wide variety of prints.
Then the Dopper, a great bottle for tap water. The source behind this project is the excellent quality of our Dutch drinking water. By using the Dopper, plastic water bottles become somewhat redundant. The idea is both simple and effective. In addition to its attractive design, the water bottle contributes part of its profit to water projects in Asia and Africa.
In short, the group presentation of Tuttobene at the New York International Gift Fair could not but attract much attention. The aim of Tuttobene in New York was to allow the US market to realize how innovative and refreshing European, and especially Dutch designs are, and embrace them. The Netherlands have a strong reputation in this area and Tuttobene’s presentation has hopefully re-confirmed this.
This project was commissioned by NL Agency, Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation.
