Textielmuseum welcomes new Director
Errol van de Werdt will start work as the new Director of Audax Textielmuseum Tilburg on November 1, 2012.
The managing board of Stichting Mommerskwartier, of which the Textielmuseum forms part, is of the opinion that the museum will benefit substantially from the appointment of van de Werdt, a professional of high calibre. Van de Werdt’s task will be to further anchor the museum on the cultural map of Europe in the years to come.
For the past twelve years Van de Werdt was Director Collections and Research at Utrecht’s Centraal Museum. Before that, he held various cultural positions in the town of Kampen. Studying in part-time, Van de Werdt, now 55, obtained his PhD in Art History and Archeology from the University of Amsterdam. He studied Advanced Management for Non-Profit Organisations at the Leiden Institute for Social and Behavioural Sciences and he studied Museology at the Reinwardt Academy. Van de Werdt has numerous lectures, publications and foreign exhibitions under his belt. In addition, he has been a very active member of organisations such as ICOM (the International Council of Museums), ICN (the Dutch Cultural Heritage Agency) and the Mondriaan Foundation.
Speaking about his new appointment, Van de Werdt says: “In these bizarre times cultural entrepreneurship is of vital importance in order for a museum to keep its head above water. As far as I am concerned, the textile museum has, as a unique museum in operation, for many years shown great promise in its attempts to flesh out this new outlook on culture. I consider it a special challenge to maintain this conviction, and to further raise the museum’s profile in Europe, alongside that of the TextielLab”.
For almost two years now, the museum has been led by Interim Director Jeannette Bertels. Bertels will leave in 2013, after having gradually transferred her duties to Van de Werdt.
