red dot communication award 2010

The industry is picking up: an astounding 38 Dutch projects were awarded a red dot communication award for 2010 in the biggest year ever for the prestigious award scheme.

By Jeanne Tan / 26-08-2010

Organisers of the red dot award attribute the record number of entries for this year's communication award to an improvement in the economy which means companies are once again spending on commissioning communication design.

This year's red dot communication award attracted a record number of entries: 6,369 from 44 nations. From this, 610 received a red dot award with 62 of those recognized with a red dot: 'best of the best' award. Two Dutch projects received this accolade: D66 Yes posters by G2K and Van Beem & Van Haagen Movie by Fabrique.

“Despite the drastic decline caused by the world economic crisis, we have once again recorded an increase in the number of entries this year,” says Prof. Dr. Peter Zec, initiator of the red dot design award, referring to the current industry trend. “The quality of the works submitted to the competition also points to the fact that more companies are again investing in communication design and that agencies’ and companies’ need for evaluation appears to remain high.”

'Best of the best' recipients go in the running to win the red dot: grand prix award which will be announced in a festive ceremony on 8 December in Essen, Germany. Also be announced at the ceremony will be the junior prize for best student work, client of the year, design agency and agency of the year.

The categories of the award are: Advertising, Annual Reports, Corporate Design,    Digital Games, E-Commerce Design, Editorial, Event Design, Games, Illustrations & Comics, Image Films, Information Design / Public Space, Interface Design, Magazines & Daily Press, Online Advertising, Online Communication, Online Education and Knowledge, Online News,    Packaging Design, Posters, Sound Design, Stamps and Banknotes, TV & Cinema, Typography and User Manuals.
