Prix de la Mode
On 15 November the 'Prix de la Mode' will be awarded, the first time the ceremony has been held in the Netherlands.
Previous editions of the award ceremony have been held in France, Spain, Italy and Japan. The Dutch ceremony will be held in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. The Prix de la Mode now brings the number of official fashion prizes awarded in the Netherlands to four: Lancôme Colour Designs Awards, the Frans Molenaar Couture Prize and the Mercedes-Benz Dutch Fashion Award. All of the awards will be held annually, but while there are financial awards for the other awards, the Prix de la Mode is purely about honour and recognition.
The awards include:
Best designer (national): Jan Taminiau
Best designer (international): Viktor & Rolf
Best fashion ambassador: Angelique Westerhoff (director of the Dutch Fashion Foundation)
Best accessory line: Louis Vuitton
Best model: Doutzen Kroes
Best style icon: Linda Evangelista
According to the organisers, Marie Claire magazine, the Prix de la Mode is an 'ode to the growing importance of Dutch fashion nationally and internationally'. By choosing the Rijksmuseum as location, the organisers hope to reinforce the idea that Dutch fashion plays an important part in the culture of the country. Minister Plasterk (Education and Culture) will present the awards.Images: Jan Taminiau, © Peter Stigter
