Natural materials and recycling are what make Piet Hein Eek’s style so recognisable. His objects fall under the category of ecological design, uniting tradition and modernity with a traditional approach to the manufacture process. He holds the belief that design and the use of these materials are essential in order to make each piece timeless: the aesthetic value of the furniture does not vary over
time because the materials are natural.
His professional career began in the nineties after studying industrial and furniture design at the prestigious Design Academy Eindhoven, where he turned his attention to simple and commonly found materials. The designer continuously breaks with convention, forging his own identity and producing what is now known as “Piet Hein Eek style”.
