This week Dutch design was labeled an important growth industry by the TNO. We visit two oversees exhibitions, one in the museum Les Arts Décoratifs in which designer Maarten Baas has been given free reign, the other in the US where we discover that the Dutch lead in pattern and ornament in design. Also this week we get the chance to purchase our very own 3D printer courtesy of FOC and de Bijenkorf, and we view studio Dumbar's contribution to the Dutch Design Awards. Last but not least we hear from Jo Meesters about his upcoming exhibition at DDW and can confirm that Design.nl is on Facebook and Twitter and will be tweeting live from DDW.
Maarten Baas and his curiosity cabinets
For his first exhibition in a Paris museum, Maarten Baas has been given a free hand to curate his own space in the contemporary gallery of Les Arts Décoratifs.
3D Printers for all
During the three crazy sale days at department store de Bijenkorf, the general public were treated to 3D printed items, live printing and the chance to purchase their very own 3D printer.

A Step Forward For Jo Meesters
A new collection for Meesters focuses on a sturdy type of textile and continues his theme of hand-manufacturing in collaboration with mass production. It will be exhibited next week at DDW.
The Design Sector is a Growth Industry
Design ranks well as an economic industry in Holland, but cultural funding cuts could harm not just the sector, but the country's main cities that are at risk of losing their appeal as attractive cultural hubs.
