During the opening, the designers were present to introduce themselves and their room to the attending guests. Their underlying thoughts and different concepts – which characterize the personal style of the designers – were explained.

Guest of honour was Piet Paris who officially opened the hotel and welcomed the curious visitors. Hotel Modez is a fact.

Inside Modez
The hotel has a total of twenty rooms, each decorated by different fashion lovers and experts in the field. Creative director Piet Paris ensures that visitors not only enjoy the beautifully-designed rooms but actually learn from them. Gijs Frieling, for instance, looks at history through vintage fashion prints. Caroline Evers introduces guests to all kinds of knits and Thomas Voorn was inspired by all manner of haberdasheries. People of the Labyrinths literally interpreted the homely theme which is evident throughout the hotel. The designers took an photo of their own living room and used this as a template for the wallpaper. Those using the lift will be surprised by a miniature fashion museum of stature; fashion photography and various fashion illustrations are alternated in this tiny room.

NEXIT architects made sure the exterior and of the hotel was matching with the inside concept. It was a challenging task to fit the hotel into a difficult urban context.

A Varied Fashion Neighbourhood
Hotel Modez is situated in the fashion neighbourhood named Klarendal. The area has a 150-year old history but for the past ten years has received a lot of negative press due to high unemployment levels and drug abuse issues. At the start of 2000 locals, housing corporation Volkshuisvesting Arnhem and other parties planted the first seeds for change. Now, twelve years later Klarendal has been redeveloped and is rightfully called a fashion neighbourhood with boutiques, designer shops, fashion ateliers and now, to complete the picture, design hotel Modez.
