Milan preview Ventura Lambrate
With only a few weeks to go until the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan, Design.nl brings you a sneak preview at upcoming events. First up, Ventura Lambrate.
Dutch design is once again abundant at the satellite events surrounding Milan design week. Big names will rub shoulders with lesser-known designers at the various galleries and shows presenting their latest finds and designs.
While the actual Salone del Mobile is still going strong, it’s the more culturally-focussed satellite events that cause the biggest commotion during Milan design week. Zona Tortona has long since been a favourite for design-lovers but last year’s newcomer to the stage Ventura Lambrate, is giving the former a run for its money.
In its second year, initiators Organisation in Design are once again aiming to put the various Ventura Lambrate events on the map. With some 45 designers present at the Via Ventura and Via Massimiano locations, the 16 Dutch studios presenting their newest work will appropriate a large chunk of the block.
Amongst them independent designers, group shows and collaborations. One such group show is an interactive exhibition named Flight of Objects, featuring lighting design by Studio DRIFT, studio Molen, Sebastian Brajkovic and Studio Eric Klarenbeek. Weltevree goes technological with their online app ‘a worldwide local…’, aiming to connect users looking to share experiences, useful tips and knowledge. Meanwhile Van Eijk en Van der Lubbe will be showing their M-collection, including M-furniture for Lensvelt, recently designed for the renovation of the Muziekgebouw Eindhoven, another pairing is formed by designers Ineke Hans and Yuya Ushida for producer Ahrend.
Various Locations
Trend forecaster and curator Lidewij Edelkoort will be present at Ventura Lambrate with Talking Textiles - where she will promote young, European textile designers - and is also co-curator for ‘Waiting for…Glasstress 2011’. This exhibition - with glass in the leading role - will show new works by Patricia Urquiola, Vik Muniz, as well as Kiki van Eijk and Silvano Rubino. The actual Glasstress event during the Venice Biennale in June will feature work by such Dutch designers as Pieke Bergmans, Joost van Bleiswijk, Kiki van Eijk, Atelier van Lieshout and Ted Noten among many more.
Location: Via Ventura 6
Last but certainly not least, Belgian-based Z33 and REcentre present 'New Times, New Heroes' during design week. The show features a new open standard for 21-century design and connects this project with over 20 designers and organizations. The presentation will consist of five parts including Recntre's Sustainable Summer School and EXHIBITION. Of course Dutch design is also featured at this event.
Location: Privata Oslavia 8
