London Design Festival 2009 preview

Dutch designers will be presenting their work again at the London Design Festival. A highlight will be Dick van Hoff's first solo UK exhibition.

In Praise of Shadows
In Praise of Shadows showcases works by 20 European designers who explore not only the potential of low energy lighting also the way we think about light and darkness. Demakersvan will be showing their Light Wind freestanding wind-powered propeller light, Pieke Bergmans light blubs, Drift (Lonneke Gordijn/Ralph Nauta) will show Fragile Futures and there will also be work from Eric Klarenbeek and Damian O'Sullivan. Curated by Jane Withers.
Dates: 19-27 September

Dick van Hoff, Gallery Libby Sellers
Gallery Libby Sellers presents new works from Dick van Hoff for his UK debut exhibition. Entitled Elements, the exhibition will also form part of the program of the Frieze Art Fair. All works have been specially commissioned for the show.

Nacho Carbonell, Gallery Fumi
Taking inspiration from crafts found in traditional folk culture, Studio Toogood and Gallery Fumi host a contemporary installation based around the sustainable and natural material - corn. Five young designers including Nacho Carbonell have been invited to create unique pieces made of this underrated material.

Dutch/American artist Nienke Klunder and Spanish designer Jaime Hayon collaborate on a new series of functional and non function objects that somehow bring to mind Versailles meets Disneyland.

Venue: Spring Projects Three Yet One
“THREE YET ONE” is a design exhibition that explores the role different media play in shaping our understanding and perception of products. Curated by Parallel Projects (Oscar Diaz and Henny van Nistelrooy) THREE YET ONE showcases the work of 12 emergent designing specifically commissioned for this exhibition. Taking a cross-disciplinary approach Parallel Projects have invited photographers and writers to describe/illustrate the products from their personal point of view.

100% Design London
Dutch exhibitors at 100% Design include Frame Magazine, Royal Mosa, Objekt, Studio Lawrence, Van Besouw Tapijt and M.I.D. Carpets. Trevor Brinkman will be part of 100% Futures and Erik Griffioen will be presenting at Designersblock.

Telling Tales
This exhibition explores the recent trend among European designers for unique or limited edition pieces that push the boundaries between art and design. It showcases furniture, lighting and ceramics designed by a new generation of international designers, who are all inspired by the spirit of story-telling. Designers featured include Tord Boontje, Studio Job, Maarten Baas, Jurgen Bey, Miriam van der Lubbe and Niels van Eijk.
