After its success last year, Amsterdam International Fashion Week will this summer again be the platform for Lichting 2008 – the official graduation show for the most promising fashion designers graduating from one of the Netherlands’ seven fashion academies.

Platform for fashion professionals

Lichting 2008 is an opportunity for fashion companies and investors to see all the talented graduates of this year and their creations together. The presence of fashion press will guarantee extensive national and international coverage of the show, and therefore of Dutch rising talent, the fashion industry and Amsterdam as a fashion city. Fashion recruitment & consultancy agency HTNK will be deploying its network for Lichting 2008, and inviting a broad group of fashion professionals, including buyers, design decision makers and CEOs. Lichting 2008 will build an important bridge between the education and business sectors.

G-Star Raw Talent Award

To inspire and motivate the students of 2008, international denim brand G-Star Raw will award the G-Star Raw Talent Award to the most promising designer of Lichting 2008. The award will consist of a cash prize of ten thousand euro in combination with a study trip to New York in September 2008, where the winner will take part in the production of G-Star’s Spring/Summer 2009 catwalk show during New York Fashion Week. The winner of the award will be chosen by the public.

Organisation

Each of the country’s seven fashion academies will be sending its best graduating students, each of whom will show five outfits from their graduation collection. The selection from each academy will be made by their senior lecturers. Each academy will send two of its best or most promising graduating students. Up to six additional places will be made available, depending on the total number of students, and a total of 20 designers will be showing. Lichting 2008 looks set to be a fashion event that truly reflects the high quality of fashion in the Netherlands.


Lichting 2008 is an initiative of HKU, HTNK, WFC, AIFW and Premsela, in cooperation with G-Star Raw, AMFI Amsterdam Fashion Institute, the Artez High School for the Arts in Arnhem, the High School for the Arts in Utrecht, the Royal Academy of the Arts in The Hague, the High School Zuyd in Maastricht, the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, and the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam.

Lichting 2008 will open on Thursday 24 July at 21.00 at the Culture Park of the Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam and can only be attended by invitation.
