Iris van Herpen big winner at Dutch Fashion Awards
The nominees of the Dutch Fashion Awards were all hopeful of a prize designed by Ted Noten, but it was fashion designer Iris van Herpen who scooped the big prizes.
The fourth edition of the annual Dutch Fashion Awards was held in the Grote Kerk in the Hague where all the big names in fashion came together to celebrate Dutch Fashion.
The nominees of this year's Dutch Fashion Awards were Iris van Herpen, Conny Groenewegen, Marcha Hüskes, Bas Kosters and Claes Iversen. The Mercedes-Benz Dutch Fashion Award went to Iris van Herpen for her collection that embodied "modern creativity in couture," according to judge Donald Potard. The prize offers Van Herpen a chance to show her collection during Berlin Fashion Week, and with this prize the jury shows their confidence in the designer's potential to become an international success in the fashion industry.
In addition to the main prize, Van Herpen was awarded the Incubator Award, and also came first in a new category Dutch Fashion Accessory Award. The Dutch Incubator Award gives designers the opportunity to design a ready-to-wear fashion collection that will be sold in the department store de Bijenkorf. “The winner of the Dutch Fashion Accessory Award 2010 shows a particular, sculptural technicality and knowledge in the use of the materials to create new shapes for shoes,” said the jury report about her accessories.
Another award presented for the first time this year is the International Fashion Incubator Award which went to Bas Kosters (following his Incubator Award last year). "This designer has explosive energy and creativity. He pushes the boundaries with his collection," stated judge Mauro Galligari about the winner.
The international jury comprised five leading names in the world of fashion, and was headed by Angelique Westerhof, managing director of the Dutch Fashion Foundation. The other jury members were Mauro Galligari (Studio Zeta, Milan), Beppe Angiolini (Camera Italiana dei Buyer della Moda, Milan), Donald Potard (Agent de Luxe, Paris), and Mandi Lennard (Mandi's Basement, London).
