Federation Dutch Creative Industries

A new umbrella organisation, Federation Dutch Creative Industries (DCI) sees major professional design bodies in The Netherlands joining forces to actively strengthen their common interests.

By Editor Design.nl / 08-09-2009

The representatives of the major professional bodies in the design, architecture, interior architecture, fashion and gaming sector have united to establish the Federation Dutch Creative Industries.

The BNA (Association of Architects), BNO (Association of Designers), BNI (Association of Interior Designers), DGA (Games Association) and MODINT (Association for Fashion, Interior Design, Carpets and Textiles) signed a new partnership to address the collective future of the creative industries. The main reasons for federation are for the streamlining and consolidation of existing initiatives in the industry and government policy, and the need to develop a joint mid-and long-term vision of the role and position of the creative services business in the context of major economic, cultural and social developments. The federation is intended to have a stronger local influence, as opposed to the Dutch DFA which is more international.

The organizations represent more than 5,000 companies and professionals in design (graphic design, industrial design), fashion, architecture, interior architecture and gaming) with a combined turnover of over 11 billion euros. The DCI could be seen as a predecessor to a Dutch Creative Council, much in the footsteps of the successful British Design Council. The next step will be for the DCI to develop a long term council and strategic agenda. Initiator Rob Huisman, director of the BNO will act as temporary chairman.
