Graduation Show 2012: Up Close Wide Open
The heart of DDW is of course the Graduation Show of the Design Academy Eindhoven, where it all began. Edition 2012 presents projects by 139 graduates of the Bachelors and Masters programs of the academy. Curated by Strange Attractors Design (Ryan Pescatore Frisk en Catelijne van Middelkoop).
This year’s slogan: 139 Individual perspectives, engaging aspects of contemporary life with the intent to transform our shared future.
Dutch Design Graduates 2012
So what happens in the rest of the country? Thirty remarkable projects by recent graduates from other academies in the Netherlands and Flanders (Belgium) selected by leading Dutch design magazine Items are shown at Dutch Design Graduates 2012. A new generation of designers exhibiting for the first time at DDW.
Graduation Show TU/e: Built Environment
The slightly more traditional neighbour of the DAE, the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) presents work of graduates of the Department of the Built Environment. Theme: the imagination of research and research into imagination. Architectural projects are shown alongside research projects within the various fields of specialization, like construction technology, structural design, building technology, building physics, construction management, design systems, real estate and urban design.
Modebelofte 2012: Portal to a new World… enter the funnel
The most promising young fashion designers recently graduated from academies in the Netherlands and Flanders selected by fashion consultant Carlo Wijnands, program director of the Amsterdam Fashion Week.
Stadhuis meets Design - Social Design Talent Award
The city of Eindhoven will present the Social Design Talent Award, meant to stimulate socially relevant design. The work of nominees can be seen at city hall as part of "Stadhuis meets Design". City hall also hosts the Dutch Design Awards exhibition and is a venue for lectures and presentations.
Lidewij Edelkoort: Fetishism in Fashion
Trend forecaster and former DAE director Lidewij Edelkoort will give a lecture on Fetishism in Fashion, theme of the fifth edition of the Mode Biënnale Arnhem in 2013. "As an avid lover of fashion and textiles, I have decided to analyse and to decompose our collective obsession with fashion through the idea of fetishism."

Milou Ket: Trend Lecture
Trend expert Milou Ket will look into the future during a lecture at DDW. Ket has worked for multinationals like Samsung, Walt Disney, Ikea, Volvo and Swarovski.

Seminar: Crafting Sustainability
Crafting Sustainability will reflect on sustainability in handmade design. Organised by Art|Object&Design, the research group of the Media, Arts & Design Faculty (Belgium), which conducts fundamental and applied research into art, craft and design and the crossovers between these three contexts.
Sophie Krier presents Field Essays, the design process unveiled
In Field Essays, reflection and fieldwork come together in an ongoing research into the tactile world of design thinking and making. Field Essays examines the processes emerging at the intersection of the design fields in which imaginative tactics and territories are explored. By following the production of new works, Field Essays functions both as a trampoline and a sounding board for the participants.
Dutch Invertuals presents Conflict
A study in the dynamics and power of conflict by design collective Invertuals. “Conflicts force us to make choices. The power of conflicts opens up a road to the future.”
Marmoleum meets Christien Meindertsma
In a co-production with producer Forbo, designer Christien Meindertsma will show the various production stages of Marmoleum and the design choices that can be made. Marmoleum consists of natural raw materials that are used in an extraordinary production process and comes in many different forms and styles.
NANO Supermarket presents a new collection “speculative nanotechnology products that could come to the market the coming decade.” By showing possible future scenario’s NANO Supermarket wants to instigate debate on what kind of future we actually want.
Upcoming designer Massoud Hassani, whose landmine detection device ‘Mine Kafon’ made it to MoMa in New York, will exhibit in two locations: his studio in ‘Sectie C’, while elsewhere town he has created the “Experimental living room, like Dali and Rumi.”
Transnatural Art & Design Label is inspired by emerging technology and scientific developments. The Label offers smart design and breathtaking art in which nature & technology come together.
