With so many events happening in Eindhoven, here's our pick of what to see during Dutch Design Week.
The eighth edition of The Netherlands' biggest design festival Dutch Design Week (DDW) will take over Eindhoven from 17-25 October 2009.
With over 60 locations and 263 events, the nine-day event involves around 1500 designers, both from The Netherlands and abroad.
Alongside group exhibitions, there will also be solo presentations (around town and in the Klokgebouw) of new and existing work from Maarten Baptist, Ontwerpduo, Floris Hovers, Krejci, Bleijh, Robert Bronwasser, Studio Mango, Breg Hanssen and Joeke Beenhakker. Jo Meesters will be presenting experiments and prototypes.
The popular pimped-up Design Taxis will be on hand again to ferry visitors between events for €1.50 per trip.
Here's our pick of what to see:
Traditionally the hub of DDW, this former industrial terrein hosts numerous events. Presentations, exhibitions, lectures and workshops will be held in the Klokgebouw as per previous years and Kiki & Joost who will be opening up their studio, previewing new products and giving a sneak peek of their collaboration with Jeroen van Tuyl. In the Klokgebouw, House of Origin will present typical Dutch food with the concept, The Potato Eaters.
On the grounds of Strijp-S, Strijp-X will be hosting Chaos/Order from Atelierdorp. The group exhibition of the designers who all work in the same converted church aterlier, investigates how different styles can co-exist without conflict, how one can assemble without friction and group together to maintain multiple identities. With recent work by Nacho Carbonell, Julien Carretero, Bas van Raay, Ontwerpduo, Charlotte Dumoncel D’argence, Hanna Jonsdottir, Joni Neelen, Djim Berger, Rocco Verdult, Hilbert Tjalkens, Vera Teunen and more.
Dutch Design Awards ceremony and exhibition
To be held on 17 October at Muziekcentrum Frits Philips, the Dutch Design Awards will award 20 prizes in the main categories of Communications, Product, and Spatial design. An exhibition of nominees and winners will be held in the Brainport Greenhouse at Stadhuisplein for the duration of the festival.
'Ceramics & Architecture' by EKWC
The international exhibition is the conclusion of a five-year project of the European Ceramic Work Centre. In work periods of three months, more than 60 local and international architects, artists and designers were invited to experiment with all kinds of ceramics. This resulted in surprising projects and collaborations ranging from artists who delivered an architectural project to architects who engaged in visual arts. ‘Ceramics & Architecture’ consists of two parts; Brick is mainly focused on tangible results while Combined Residencies is focused on establishing a cross-fertilisation between the various disciplines.

Lift-Off - Laughter Forbidden
This year's edition features a stellar list of designers. Focused on the comic prophesy of design - Laughter Forbidden - the exhibition curated by Freek Lomme and Dave Keune features Atelier van Lieshout, Bas van Beek, Ted Noten, Studio Oooms, Marti Guixe, Helmut Smits and more.

Shop, restaurant, gallery, cafe. Always a great place to have a meal or drink and check the fabulous exhibition held there every year during DDW.

Want to get lost? Getting Lost is an event driven by the tension between acquiring and losing. This is the connecting theme in the new fashion collection of MLY as well as in the design exhibition. Curated by BCXSY.

Meersterlijk (22-25 October)
Design fair focusing on craftsmanship and design. More than 100 designers, stylists, producers and craftspeople will be exhibiting hand-crafted works which will be for sale.

Designhuis - Talent
TALENT presents a colourful collection of new European talent and provides an overview of recent developments in design education. The selection of the best students from 30 European Academies was made by Li Edelkoort, curator and art director of the Designhuis.

Design Academy, Graduation Galleries
The much anticipated graduation exhibitions of around 140 works from the bachelors and masters courses from Design Academy will once again be held at the Witte Dame building.

Young at Heart (23 October)
A joint event organised by Premsela, BNO and ZOO the fourth edition of Young at Heart allows young designers to meet their design idols and hear about the successes and mistakes of their careers. The stellar list of idols includes Frans Bevers, Maria Blaisse, Rijk Boerma, Wim Crouwel, Ria van Eyk, Donald Jansen, Jan Jansen, Maria van Kesteren, Puck Kroon & Hans Kemmink, Jan Lucassen, Frans van Nieuwenborg, Lies Ros, Luud Schimmelpenninck, Swip Stolk, John de Vries and Marijke van der Wijst.
Brainport Design for Happy Living
Design Connection Brainport presents a new edition of Made in Brainport focusing on design that cares. In a dual presentation of conceptual and industrial design products, ‘Design for Happy Living’ represents the unique nature of design in Brainport.

Unlimited Design Contest exhibition and awards ceremony
Amateurs, students and professionals have designed imaginative one-off products in digital fabrication labs for the competition, which closes on 12 October 2009. The best designs will be on display at Eindhoven University of Technology’s Gaslab from 19 - 23 October. The winner in each category – Form, Food and Fashion – will be revealed at an awards ceremony on 23 October at the Gaslab. Please see the Premsela website for more details.

Pop-Up restaurant furnished with work of (inter)national design talents including Maarten Baptist, Arian Brekveld, Kiki van Eijk, Dick van Hoff, Kranen en Gille, Sander Lucas, Nienke Sybrandy and others.

Concert, 17 October
Frame’s Grand Stand
On 22 October, eight young designers will pitch their designs in front of an audience to four leading design professionals, including Richard Hutten.
