Business of Design Week goes Orange

If you're into celebrity designer spotting, the Business of Design Week opening in Hong Kong next week boasts an impressive lineup of international speakers. The Netherlands is the partner country for 2008 so events and speakers will mostly centre around Dutch projects and collaborations between The Netherlands, China and Hong Kong.

Exploring the theme of "Open Minds," Business of Design Week 2008 seeks to contribute to further strengthening the position of Chinese and international creative sectors through sharing the successes of Dutch design.

With a seriously impressive line-up of international speakers, the Business of Design Week (bodw) opens next week in Hong Kong, running from 8 December to 13 December 2008. The aim of the event is to encourage international businesses to focus more on the relationship between business and design. The partner country for 2008 is The Netherlands, so not surprisingly, major Dutch design and architecture names will be speaking at the special three-day design forum.

The rock star line-up of Dutch speakers includes Marcel Wanders, Winy Maas, Marlies Dekkers, Ben van Berkel, Renny Ramakers, Irma Boom, Hella Jongerius and Rem Koolhaas. The international line-up boasts some of the world's top designers including Kazuyo Sejima, Michael Young and Shigeru Ban. Topics range from Design & Product and Technology, Culture and the City to Design & Communication to Earthquake proof design.

Alongside the main event at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre are satellite exhibitions, workshops and activities throughout the city as part of a program called DETOUR. Highlights include:
